My Awesome Mixtees – Kristy Anne Ligones
La designer di questa settimana è Kristy Anne Ligones, autrice di una bellissima t-shirt per Threadless e di una delle Mixtees più apprezzate (infatti è sold out!). Fra l’altro, proprio la grafica della sua mixtee è uno dei lavori scelti per illustrare un’intervista della nostra su Siren & Cengken. Questo invece è quello che ha raccontato a noi:
Tell us briefly about youself!
I’m a Graphic Designer and Illustrator from the Philippines, I also do Photography, and likes to venture more on other fields of art like motion graphics animation. I’m a graduate of Fine Arts, major in Advertising arts. I use to work for a publishing company as a picture book designer and then as a Graphic Designer for a local Ad Agency then after that I became a freelancer, which made me more flexible with what I do and met a lot of clients abroad. I’m more known for my illustrator skills, mostly applied for t-shirt Graphic designing, one of my designs won at Threadless.
How did you work on the graphics for “my awesome mixtape”?
Yup! I did a research of them, since I haven’t heard about them yet, though I just got fascinated with the band name,which very much reflects indie and highschool, because I use to make mixtapes for myself, even for my band back in highschool days. I also listened to their music which is really good and unique, so i came up with the Ramen noodle mixtape concept since Ramen is Awsome, although ramen is from Japan and MAM is an italian band, so it should have been Pasta with tomato sauce in it right? but I’m Asian, and Ramen or noodles to be general is one of the staple food in Asia aside from rice, so adding a taste of a mixtape with the red and orange as the color of the tape reflects as a spaghetti sauce color, is like adding more life to the plain coloured Ramen noodles, lik adding a good mix of awesomeness to it, and i think it also reflects to their music which has vivid colors to it, and they bring that color to other parts of the world, to give Awesome music. I aslo wanted the design to be literal, to add some comic to it, and spell the name of the band through the noodle, sauce colored tape.
Which music are you listening to at the moment? What are your five favourite music groups?
I’m currently listening to Passion Pit, Chairlift, Death Cab for Cutie, She & Him, Modest Mouse, and other indie related music. I really like Indie bands,not because they don’t get over played on radios and music channels on tv, but because they always bring out the trend of a new music style first, before the Pop world steals their spotlight, and Indie music does experiment more on music than the way they look and that’s why they come up with pretty unique ones. I don’t have in particular a fave five music groups, because i listen to a lot of bands these days, but if I’m going to pick 5 among them, like what I’m into right now, that would be Passion Pit, Eisley, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric and Chairlift.
